The summer of 2004 saw the lowest youth employment rate in NYC in over two decades. While youth struggle to get a decent education and jobs for teens are at an all-time low, funding for jails and detention centers continue to increase. G.A.P. youth spent the summer exploring this connection and produced a creative reflection on this enduring problem.
Community Radio for Youth Power!

We have a historic opportunity now to empower youth groups. Join Prometheus Radio Project and youth groups across the country to learn how you can start your own community radio station! A newly passed law will allow nonprofits and community groups to apply
for brand new community radio station licenses as soon as next summer. These noncommercial stations are controlled locally to amplify local voices and views. They can serve as multimedia community centers to engage the local and global community in creative new ways. The Philadelphia Student Union and Radio Rootz will be on to share how they are already using radio as a tool for youth organizing.
