What is the Allied Media Conference and Werk It?

Werk It! Is the first national gathering of LGBTQQ youth organizers from across the country who will come together for a day of fabulous, creative, and radical media making and strategizing. Through interactive activities, skill-shares and strategy sessions, we will share knowledge, develop leadership and build a network for strengthening the power of our communities to fight back-locally, regionally and nationally. Streetwise & Safe, FIERCE, and Global Action Project’s SupaFriends are teaming up to try and take 20 LGBTQ youth from New York City to participate in this amazing event!

All of this is taking place as part of the Allied Media Conference which brings together hundreds of media makers, community organizers, performers, and political activists to share tools and tactics for transforming our communities through media-based organizing. It happens annually in the city of Detroit and we love going there and building relationships with the many talented folks who come back again and again!

More About This Tremendous Trio of Organizations….

FIERCE is a membership-based organization building the leadership and power of LGBTQ youth of color in New York City. Since 2000, we’ve been developing politically conscious leaders who are invested in improving ourselves and our communities through youth-led campaigns, leadership development programs, and cultural expression through arts and media.

Global Action Project's (GAP) mission is to work with young people most affected by injustice to build the knowledge, tools, and relationships needed to create media for community power, cultural expression, and political change. The SUPAFRIENDS program is a program created by and for LGBTQ youth to explore queer history, take pride in our identities, and build power by producing our own media.

Streetwise & Safe (SAS) is a multi-strategy initiative working to build and share leadership, skills, knowledge and community among LGBTQQ youth of color who experience criminalization, particularly in the context of the policing of poverty, "quality of life" offenses, and involvement or perceived involvement in survival economies. We conduct “know your rights” workshops specifically tailored to LGBTQQ youth of color where we share critical information about rights in the criminal legal system as well as strategies to increase safety and reduce the harms of interactions with police.

Thank you for your consideration to support our Werk-It! Fundraiser! Stay FABULOUS!
